Founder Christmas 4 Kids/Families (2001-2003)

Valley Institute

In the wake of the September 11th tragedy, a spirit of unity and compassion swept across the nation. Witnessing the immense hardship it caused, I felt compelled to take action and spread some holiday cheer to families in need within our community. Thus, the Season of Sharing was born.

Season of Sharing's mission is to ensure that local families facing difficulties can still experience the joy and warmth of the holiday season. We achieve this by:

Fundraising: Securing donations from generous individuals and local businesses. Through meetings with community leaders and business owners, I garnered vital support to kickstart this initiative.
Gift Distribution: Organizing the collection and distribution of gifts, ensuring each family receives a thoughtful selection of presents for their children.
Community Collaboration: Partnering with local organizations to identify families in need and leverage resources effectively.
The most rewarding aspect of founding Season of Sharing is witnessing the impact it has on families. Seeing the joy on the faces of children as they receive gifts, the gratitude expressed by parents, and the sense of community spirit that flourishes during the holiday season – these are moments that truly resonate.

Season of Sharing's success wouldn't be possible without the incredible support we receive. From the initial contributions of local businesses to the ongoing dedication of volunteers, it's a collaborative effort that brings hope and happiness to families during a critical time.

Witnessing the determination, sportsmanship, and pure joy of the athletes was an incredibly rewarding experience.

My role as a volunteer involved two key functions:

Registration: Greeting athletes and families, ensuring they were registered smoothly, and answering any questions they might have. This initial interaction helped set a welcoming and inclusive tone for the event.
Timekeeping: Accurately recording the finishing times for various athletic events. This ensured fair competition and celebrated the achievements of each athlete.
While these tasks may seem simple, the impact they had was significant. A warm welcome at registration eased pre-competition jitters, and accurate timekeeping ensured every athlete's accomplishment was recognized.

The most fulfilling aspect of volunteering was witnessing the pure joy of the athletes. Their enthusiasm for competition, their unwavering support for one another, and their sense of accomplishment at the finish line – these were truly inspiring moments. Special Olympics is not just about winning; it's about participation, sportsmanship, and celebrating individual abilities.

PTA President (2005-2006)

Valley Institute

The year I was Valley Institute Elementary's PTA President was an incredibly rewarding experience. Our dedicated team of parents, teachers, and staff collaborated to achieve remarkable milestones, fostering a vibrant school community that empowers our students.

One of our proudest achievements was being recognized as the Best PTA in Washington County. This prestigious award acknowledges our commitment to supporting academic excellence and creating a positive learning environment for all students. This accomplishment wouldn't have been possible without the tireless efforts of our PTA members.

But our success didn't stop there. For the first time, Valley Institute Elementary's PTA was awarded Best PTA at the Regional level! This recognition placed us in the running for the coveted State title. While we ultimately didn't win at the State competition, the journey itself was incredibly rewarding. The entire experience solidified Valley Institute's PTA as a leader in parent-teacher collaboration.

Beyond awards, we also focused on initiatives that directly impacted our school environment. Our inaugural "Beautification Saturday" brought together staff, parents, and students for a day of cleaning, landscaping, and beautification projects. This collaborative effort fostered a sense of community pride and ownership in our school.

Washington County Schools' vision of fostering well-rounded individuals aligns perfectly with the PTA's mission. Through various programs, events, and fundraising initiatives, Valley Institute's PTA is committed to supporting:

The thought of a child going hungry, especially over weekends, deeply troubles me. That's why volunteering with Backpacks for Kids has been such a meaningful experience. Volunteering at the Abuse Alternatives safe house has been an eye-opening experience. Knowing that my efforts are directly contributing to the well-being of survivors fleeing domestic violence motivates me deeply.

Abuse Alternatives provides a vital lifeline for those escaping abusive relationships. Their 24/7 hotline and comprehensive services empower survivors to rebuild their lives. Volunteering allows me to play a small role in this critical mission.

One way I contribute is by stocking the shelves of the safe house pantry. Here, I ensure a constant supply of essential items – from food and toiletries to diapers and baby wipes. Knowing that these items will help meet the basic needs of families escaping unimaginable situations is incredibly rewarding.

The atmosphere at the safe house is one of strength and resilience. While the stories of those seeking refuge can be heartbreaking, the unwavering support offered by Abuse Alternatives staff and volunteers fosters a sense of hope for a brighter future.

My time spent volunteering has instilled in me a profound respect for the organization's dedication to ending domestic violence. From providing safe shelter to offering counseling and legal advocacy, Abuse Alternatives empowers survivors to reclaim their lives.

Stocking shelves may seem like a small task, but it's part of a larger movement toward a violence-free future. Volunteering at Abuse Alternatives allows me to be a part of something bigger than myself, to contribute to a cause that is both necessary and impactful.

The staggering statistics surrounding diabetes are a stark reminder of the immense impact this disease has on millions of Americans. That's why I felt compelled to volunteer at the Diabetes By-the-Numbers walk, a fundraiser dedicated to fighting this epidemic.

Beyond the individual stories, the sheer number of participants at the walk spoke volumes. This sea of walkers united in their fight against diabetes showcased the collective power of community action. The event wasn't just a fundraiser; it was a symbol of hope and a rallying cry for a brighter future.
